Phase 6A Groundbreaking

Friday, June 20th at 2:30 pm

Join Mayor Aftab Pureval and leaders from the CROWN Capital Campaign as we break ground on Phase 6A of Wasson Way.  This extension of the trail will run from Woodburn Ave in Evanston to Blair Ct in Avondale.

The groundbreaking will take place at the future Woodburn Ave trailhead, on Woodburn Ave just south of Dana Ave.

Volunteers needed June 3, 2023

Volunteer Date: Saturday, June 3, 2023

Time: 8:30 am – 10:30 am

Location:
Meet at 8:30 am across the street from the Marburg Ave. entrance to the trail, in the parking lot at Eastern Hills and Wasson Way, near Colesco Inc/Richards Industries, (the back entrance to the Hyde Park Plaza shopping center).  Plenty of free off-street parking at this location, courtesy of Richards Industries.  Look for the Wasson Way signs and registration table

Work Details: Weeding perennial and flower beds from Marburg Ave trail head to Madison Rd.

What to bring: Work gloves, small spade sun hat, water bottle, smile

Have you noticed all the flower along Wasson Way between Marburg Ave. and Madison Rd? These are all thanks to our volunteers and the Cincinnati Master Gardeners who donate their time, labor and expertise. Please join us!

We will be doing weeding and thinning seedlings and clean up in the flower and perennial beds. The forecast for next Saturday is great, so come on out and dig in the dirt. The Master Gardeners will be supervising the volunteers so no gardening experience is necessary.

Bring work gloves, a small spade or garden trowel if you have one (we’ll have them on hand if you need one) and water. Please plan to spend 2 hours digging in the dirt.

Please volunteer April 15 and 22

Spring landscape projects need your support!

$10,000 in new donations are needed by April 1, 2023! Please click here to donate.

Last spring and summer you may have noticed new flower gardens popping up along Wasson Way between Madison Rd. and Marburg Ave.  This is all thanks to the volunteers working with the Wasson Way Landscape Committee.  Last year we planted nearly 2000 flower bulbs, just as many seeds for annual flowers in addition to more than 70 trees, all as part of a Landscape Master plan we developed with POD Design, a professional landscape design firm.  Garden preparations and layout were done by volunteers, Cincinnati Master Gardeners and Young Entrepreneurs Landscaping.  This year we have more plans!

We are currently finalizing designs with University of Cincinnati DAAP Landscape Architecture faculty and students and funding from the CROWN and Nellie Leaman Taft Foundation for two new installations.  A “Tiny Forest” based on Miyawaki and Tallamy methods and a new “Pollinator Garden” will be installed on the trail to the west of the I-71 bridge, near Floral Ave.  These installations are the first in a network of planned installations along the CROWN that will provide habitat for animals and insects, as well as nectar for pollinators, while increasing carbon sequestration along the network.  Even though they are tiny, every little bit counts.  And they will add beauty and peace to your travels along the trail.

So, what can you do about it?
– Donate your time as a volunteer to help with the installations.

Donate your money to support the projects.  We have an immediate need for $10,000 by the end of February, to match the funds of the CROWN/Nellie L. Taft Foundation to purchase the trees, flowers, and do the soil remediation needed to turn an old gravel railroad bed into a flowering garden.

Your contributions are much needed and appreciated.  Click here to donate!

Please support Wasson Way in 2022

As a 100% volunteer nonprofit organization that began as a grassroots initiative, Wasson Way heavily depends on local donations and volunteers. We have a $10,000 2022 YEAR-END FUNDRAISING GOAL to help pay for our ongoing landscaping projects along the trail. Our organization is responsible for keeping the trail in fantastic shape. Will you please CLICK HERE to make a tax-deductible donation today to support our efforts and help us meet our goal?

Volunteers needed December 3 and 10

The natural surface access ramp from Aylesboro to Wasson Way will be installed December 3rd and December 10th and we need volunteers! Volunteer work will include moving dirt, clearing brush, removing the invasive honeysuckle and vines, and spreading gravel. Please bring gloves and any tools you have that would be useful in these tasks.
